An Honourable Invitation to Derbyshire Constabulary Headquarters – Black History Month 2026
Thursday, 22nd October 2026 | Ripley, Derbyshire
I was deeply honoured and privileged to be personally invited by Lloyd George Newby, Esq., MBE, to Derbyshire Constabulary Headquarters in Ripley, in celebration of Black History Month 2026.
During this prestigious occasion, I had the distinct pleasure of engaging in an insightful and thought-provoking conversation with Chief Constable Simon Blatchly, OBE, discussing some of the most fundamental challenges and opportunities surrounding the future of policing, leadership and organisational transformation.
Our discussions focused on three essential pillars: Culture, People Context and Leadership Development, particularly the importance of empowering individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds and historically underrepresented communities.
We explored how policing organisations can strengthen their leadership structures, address ineffective leadership practices, create greater opportunities for inclusion and, most importantly, develop the next generation of leaders capable of transforming our workforces and communities for the better.
A particularly significant element of our conversation centred on passing the responsibility of leadership to future generations, ensuring that emerging leaders are equipped with the confidence, knowledge, integrity and opportunities required to make a lasting difference.
True leadership is not simply about holding authority. It is about developing people, challenging ineffective practices, strengthening communities and creating opportunities for others to lead long after we have passed on the responsibility.
My sincere appreciation goes to Lloyd George Newby, Esq., MBE, for his kind invitation and to Chief Constable Simon Blatchly for the valuable discussion.
